【内容提要】韩愈虽然没有完整意义上的关于天命问题的系统理论,但他着重从“天人相仇”的角度充分说明了人类怨天情绪产生的现实根源,为文人诗家抒写因人生坎坷而引发的愤懑之思提供了独特的理论依据。受此影响,韩愈的不少诗歌作品在抒发感激怨怼之气的同时,往往诉及上天,从而强化了其作品的情感力量和批评是非颠倒的社会现实的力度,并且深刻地影响着韩愈诗学审美思想的形成,改变其观察社会、审视自然的眼光和心态,改变了历来诗家重在刻画自然之美的创作传统。

【英文摘要】We are hardly to recognize that Han Yu bore the holism of destiny.Yet he had often applied the view that nature is at enmity with man to interpret how and why that man is so changeable in his feeling and thought;the feeling of groaning,sighing and cursing fate from which,he thought,men of letter and poets drawn their inspiration.We find in Han Yu's poems that he gives expression the feeling of resentment and conveysto Heaven his appeal,simultaneously.This would strengthen the power of moving feelings and make greater intensity of criticism which he was in the attempt to voice in his works.Weare hardly to recognize that Han Yu bore no idea of predestination.It was this outlook with which Han Yu looked atthe world,social and physical,before him,and,especially,the picture of nature he depicted is different to that of the predecessors who valued up on portraying the beauty of nature.

从严格的哲学层面上说,韩愈是没有完整的关于天命问题的思想体系的,因为他在这一方面的观念具有很强的随意性。在他的言论中,“天”这一概念的内涵缺乏稳定性,有时是指客观的自然界,如《原人》:“形于上者谓之天,形于下者谓之地,命于其两间者谓之人。”[1](卷一一,p.178)有时指宇宙人间的运行规则,重其公正、公平和秩序之义理,也就是《与孟尚书书》中说的“君子行己立身”的“法度”以及“积善积恶,殃庆自各以其类至”的必然规律;有时又指能够降祸福、惩善恶的天命意志,如《归彭城》:“上天不虚应,祸福各有随。”[2](卷一,p.120)或如《送孟东野序》所云:“将天丑其德,莫之顾邪?何为乎不鸣其善鸣者也?”[1](卷一九,p.277)因此,从哲学的观点看,韩愈的天命观既有唯物论的因素,又有唯心论的色彩。就以上三者的关系而言,“天”所具有的“公理”之义,是从“天”的“自然”性质引申出来的;而“天”的降祸福、惩善恶之意志,则显然烙上了人的情感思想的印记,是对“天”的“公理”之义的进一步发挥。这些不同层面的“天”的含义,在先秦孔、孟等儒家著作中就已存在,韩愈不过采纳其说,论述或解释有关具体的人事而已[3](pp.45~48)。
但是,在天命问题上,韩愈对儒学思想传统也有突破和发展的一面,并深刻地影响着他的文学创作和诗学思想。比如,《论语
